Horticulture
Department deals with the production and breeding of fruit, vegetable
and ornamental plants as well as post-harvest physiology and pre-marketing
preparation of these produce.
In the scope of License Program students are educated with basic
scientific lessons (Botany, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics,
Statistics, Agricultural Economy, etc.) for the first year; basic
agricultural engineering lessons for second and the particular lessons
for the final two years.
In the department, Master and Doctorate Programs are carried out
under the constitution of Natural and Applied Science Institute.
The Department has its own citrus production areas with numerous
subtropical fruits, temperate fruits, vineyards, vegetables and
a wide range of ornamental plants, besides research and application
areas. On the other hand, contemporary greenhouses and well-equipped
laboratories are the other application parts of education facilities.
Many national and international projects, sometimes associated with
private sector, have been carried out in all horticultural fields.
Graduate students as agriculture engineer, can find satisfactory
occupations in The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Efforts, Banks,
Agricultural Cooperatives, private seed and seedling companies,
produce storage firms, agricultural chemistry sectors, processed
crops factories, private farms and greenhouses as well as his/her
personal vendor office.
